THE 14TH KAFA AWARD RECIPIENT EXHIBITION PHENOMENA March 13 - April 2, 2015 Exhibition Dates & Hours Mon-Fri 10-5pm / Sat 10-1pm / Sun Close <table width="675" align="left" class="left" id="community_image"><tbody><tr><td><img _width="675" align="absmiddle" src="/rankup_module/rankup_board/attach/performance/14249894570161.jpg" style="width:675px;"></td></tr></tbody></table>  Phenomena is the 14th KAFA Award Recipient Exhibition by Olga Lah. Large-scale site-specific installations as well as photographic prints and works on paper using found materials are presented by Lah. The works explore ideas on perspective, spatial relationships and the notion of experience and transcendence. In one installation Lah uses discarded and leftover wood blinds to create a large work that is suspended mid-air. The encompassing piece re-constitutes the gallery site and seeks to alter the viewer’s approach to the space. It creates an overwhelming engagement with the material to evoke an active environment. In the same vein, another site-specific installation employing manipulated styrofoam cylinders interacts with the immediate area to uncover new contextual appropriations. The use of styrofoam and wood blinds is Lah’s continued practice of using commonplace materials to play with perception and value. Ordinary materials also make up works on paper that investigate tension and movement in flat space, creating different gestural narratives. The minimalist arrangements draw in an intimate focus on observation. In addition, a photographic series will show an installation of various chairs inserted in a physical landscape—touching on a flux between reality and unreality, from wakefulness to a heightened sense of consciousness. Together the works look to frame the exploration of experience. It is an investigation into the edge between the particularities of what is known and the ambiguity of individual perception. And therefore an invitation to adjust a familiarity to our surroundings while pointing to meaning in transcended constructs. The Korea Arts Foundation of America (KAFA) is a non-profit organization established in 1989 to promote creativity, research, study and exhibitions in the arts. KAFA selects one artist biennially to receive a cash prize and solo exhibition.
